The celebratory atmosphere vanished, replaced by a tense, suffocating silence. Striding down the aisle was Chase, Lauren’s wealthy and volatile ex-fiancé, flanked by two uniformed police officers and a stern-faced lawyer. A smug, triumphant grin distorted Chase’s handsome face as he ignored the gasps of the wedding guests. Justin instinctively wheeled himself slightly ahead of Lauren, his shoulders tense, shielding her from the man who had once caused her so much pain.

"Stop this farce immediately!" Chase shouted, his voice dripping with malice. "Lauren, you are marrying a criminal. This man is a fraud who has lied to you from the very beginning!"

Lauren gripped the armrests of her wheelchair, her heart hammering against her ribs. Chase’s lawyer stepped forward, handing a thick manila envelope to the bewildered pastor. Chase pointed an accusing finger at Justin, sneering loudly for the entire congregation to hear. He claimed that Justin had not been a heroic bystander on the night of the crash. Instead, Chase accused Justin of being a reckless street racer who had directly caused the collision, fabricating the rescue story to cover up his guilt and avoid a lengthy prison sentence.

The accusation hung heavily in the air. Lauren turned to Justin, expecting him to shout down the lies, to defend his honor. But to her horror, Justin’s face had drained of all color. His gaze was fixed on the floor, his hands trembling violently on his lap. He remained utterly silent, refusing to meet her eyes. Tears welled in Lauren’s eyes as the police officer stepped forward, pulling a pair of handcuffs from his belt. The realization that her entire relationship might have been built on a devastating lie threatened to shatter her soul right there at the altar.
