Previously: When Sarah's wealthy father disowned her for choosing a military career over his demands, he never expected to see her again—especially not as the guest of honor at his own high-society gala.

The applause that followed was deafening, but to Richard and Eleanor, it sounded like a death knell. As soon as the formal ceremony concluded, Richard intercepted Sarah near the VIP lounge, his face flushed with a mixture of rage and panic. He grabbed her elbow, attempting to pull her into a quiet alcove, but Sarah firmly brushed his hand away. Arthur stood just a few paces behind her, a watchful sentinel.

The Confrontation

"What is the meaning of this, Sarah?" Richard hissed, his voice trembling as he tried to maintain his composure. "You come here, dressed like this, trying to humiliate me? You have no right to disrupt my event!"

Eleanor stepped up behind her husband, her bleach-blonde hair shaking with indignation. "You always were an ungrateful child. You think a few medals make you better than us? You are a disgrace to this family's name!"

Sarah looked at them, feeling a profound sense of pity. The people who had once held absolute power over her life now seemed so incredibly small. She stood her ground, her voice cool and unwavering.

"I didn't come here to humiliate you, Richard," Sarah said, deliberately refusing to call him father. "I came here because my duty required it. And because it is time to settle old debts."

Richard sneered, leaning in closer. "Don't play games with me. I have connections in Washington. I can make one phone call and have your career dismantled by morning. You will smile for the cameras, pretend we are a reunited family, or I will ruin you."

Sarah’s smile only deepened, though her eyes remained cold as ice. She opened her leather portfolio and pulled out a single sheet of paper. It was a federal warrant. For years, Richard had been using Sarah's dormant bank accounts—accounts he had set up when she was a teenager—to launder illegal offshore funds, believing her military status would shield the accounts from scrutiny.

"You thought I wouldn't find out," Sarah whispered. "But the Pentagon monitors everything. And tonight, the audit is complete."
