My Father Forced Me Into a Wheelchair Until a Stranger Exposed His Lies
The Golden Cage
The Grand Ballroom of the Sterling Estate was a monument to old money and carefully guarded secrets. Golden ornaments caught the light of massive crystal chandeliers, casting a warm, deceptive glow over the city’s elite. Seated in the center of the room in a dark green silk gown was Sophia Sterling. To the glittering crowd, she was the tragic, wheelchair-bound heiress. To her father, Vincent, she was a vital piece of leverage.
Vincent stood over his daughter like a warden, his thinning gray hair neatly slicked back, his tailored tuxedo immaculate. He was in the middle of a toast when the heavy doors at the back of the hall swung open. Ryan, a rugged man in a brown suede bomber jacket and worn jeans, walked in. He looked completely out of place among the silk and diamonds, but his posture was filled with unshakeable resolve.

Vincent’s face darkened instantly. He marched over, placing himself protectively—or rather, possessively—in front of Sophia's wheelchair. He sneered at Ryan, his voice dripping with condescension.
"This is not a place for people like you," Vincent hissed, loud enough for the nearby guests to hear.
The music died down. A heavy silence fell over the ballroom. Ryan didn't flinch. He looked past the billionaire, his eyes locking onto Sophia, whose hands were already clenching tightly in her lap. Then, he looked Vincent dead in the eye.
"She can walk," Ryan said, his voice calm and steady.
A collective gasp rippled through the crowd. Whispers erupted like wildfire. Vincent’s face flushed a deep, angry red. He stepped closer to Ryan, his fists clenching at his sides.
"What did you just say?" Vincent demanded, his voice shaking with suppressed fury.
"She's not broken," Ryan repeated, stepping forward. He glanced down at Sophia's trembling hands. "She's afraid."
