My Father Left Me With a Ruthless Debt, But My Real Identity Changed Everything
Previously: When a ruthless debt collector cornered me in a dark corridor demanding my late father's dues, he thought I was an easy target—until I revealed who I actually was.
The Token of Power
Marcus stumbled back, clutching his bruised wrist in sheer disbelief. The mocking laughter from the steel staircase died instantly, replaced by a tense, heavy silence. The two henchmen straightened up, their smug grins vanishing as they realized I wasn't the helpless victim they had anticipated. The flickering fluorescent light overhead hummed loudly, casting rapid shadows across Marcus’s furious face.
"You think a little parlor trick is going to save you from what your father owes?" Marcus spat, his voice laced with venom as he took a menacing step forward. "You're going to pay, one way or another."
Instead of backing away, I reached slowly into the inner pocket of my green utility vest. My fingers wrapped around a heavy, cold metal object. I pulled it out and held it up under the dim light. It was a heavy silver signet ring, engraved with a detailed, roaring wolf's head—the unmistakable crest of the Romanov Syndicate.

The Romanovs were the shadow rulers of the city's criminal underworld, the very organization that Marcus and his crew secretly operated under. My father had been a quiet man, but my mother was the estranged sister of Mikhail Romanov, the undisputed boss of the entire Syndicate. I had kept this part of my life buried, but Marcus had left me no choice.
Marcus froze mid-stride. His eyes widened, darting from my face to the silver ring gleaming in my hand. The color drained from his face, and behind him, his henchmen took an involuntary step back, their hands trembling.
"Where... where did you get that?" Marcus whispered, his tough persona crumbling in an instant.
"My uncle gave it to me," I replied coldly, my voice echoing in the narrow corridor. "And if I make one call to Mikhail, you and your men will be nothing but a memory by midnight. Now, do you still want to talk about my father's debt?"
