Previously: Evelyn walked down the aisle in tears, carrying a devastating secret. Her groom was blackmailing her father, forcing her into a marriage she didn't want—until a shocking altar revelation changed everything.

The Dark Truth Behind the Altar

Only two hours prior, Julian had cornered me in the bridal suite, tossing a thick manila envelope onto my vanity. Inside were ancient financial documents from thirty years ago. When I was a little girl, a rare heart defect had threatened my life. Desperate and unable to afford the experimental surgery, my father had temporarily diverted funds from the accounting firm where he worked. Though he replaced every cent within a year, Julian’s father, the firm’s senior partner, had kept the records in a private safe. Julian had found them.

"If you don't marry me today and sign over your inheritance trust, these documents go straight to the federal prosecutor," Julian had hissed, his voice cold and devoid of any love. "Your father’s heart is weak, Evelyn. He won't survive a single week behind bars."

Now, standing at the altar, the priest began the ceremony. My father stood beside me, his hand still resting protectively over mine. When the priest asked who gave this woman to be married, my father stepped forward, his voice thick with emotion. "I do," he said proudly.

But as Thomas reached out to place my hand into Julian’s, I froze. My hand trembled, hovering in the cold air between them. Julian’s eyes narrowed, a silent, threatening glare warning me of the consequences. The silence in the church stretched, becoming heavy and suffocating. The guests began to whisper, sensing the sudden, icy tension.

Suddenly, my father noticed my hesitation. He looked at my tear-stained face, then at Julian’s tight, aggressive posture. Thomas’s warm smile faded, replaced by an expression of deep concern. He didn't let go of my hand. Instead, he pulled me slightly behind him, shielding me from the man I was supposed to marry.

"Evie," my father whispered, his voice steady despite his age. "What is wrong? Tell me the truth."
