Previously: Three years after his fiancée vanished without a word, Liam receives a cryptic text. Their silent reunion under the neon lights of a burger joint leads him to a devastating family secret.

Marcus sneered, recovering his composure quickly. "Ah, the prodigal son. You shouldn't be here, Liam. This is family business, and your father has made his decisions." Liam stepped directly between Marcus and Chloe, his eyes blazing. He looked back for a fraction of a second, locking eyes with the little girl who had his own dark curls and deep blue eyes. A fierce, protective instinct took hold of him.

"This ends tonight, Marcus," Liam said, his voice deadly calm. "Get out of this room, and tell my father that if he ever threatens Chloe or my daughter again, I will go to the press with every single piece of dirt I have on his firm. I will ruin him."

Marcus stared at Liam, realizing the young man was no longer the naive boy his father could easily manipulate. Recognizing the defeat, the lawyer snatched his briefcase from the table, muttered a curse, and brushed past Liam into the night, slamming the door behind him.

A Second Chance

The silence that followed was heavy, filled only with the sound of Chloe’s soft, ragged breathing. Liam turned slowly to face her. The anger vanished from his face, replaced by a profound, healing warmth. He sank to his knees in front of her chair, looking up at the woman he had never stopped loving, and the little girl who was now rubbing her sleepy eyes.

"Why didn't you tell me, Chloe?" Liam asked, his voice cracking with emotion. "I would have protected you from him."
"I was so scared, Liam," she whispered, tears finally spilling down her cheeks. "Your father was too powerful. But when she got sick, and I had nowhere else to turn, I came back just to see you one last time. I didn't think I was strong enough to face you."

Liam gently reached out, placing his hand over hers. For the first time in three years, the coldness in his chest melted away. They had a long road ahead of them, and a battle to fight, but they were no longer alone. True love doesn't vanish; it simply waits for the right moment to fight its way back to the light.
