The Fall of the Bride

The grand banquet hall of the Grandview Estate was a vision of opulence. Sparkling crystal chandeliers cast a warm, golden glow over hundreds of wealthy guests dressed in their finest attire. Jessica, a young blonde woman of breathtaking elegance, stood in her intricate lace wedding gown, her heart heavy. Today was supposed to be the happiest day of her life, but the atmosphere felt suffocating. Her new husband, David, a handsome man in a tailored black tuxedo, stood beside her, chatting with his wealthy business partners, completely ignoring his new bride.

Jessica had been standing for hours, her feet aching and her head spinning. She felt a sudden wave of dizziness wash over her. Desperate for a moment of relief, she reached for a chair at the head table. But as she tried to sit, her foot caught on the heavy, multi-layered train of her gown. The chair slipped on the highly polished marble floor, and with a sharp gasp, Jessica fell backward, crashing heavily onto the ground.

The music stopped. The chatter died down instantly. The entire hall went dead silent as hundreds of eyes stared at the bride on the floor. Jessica looked up, expecting her husband to rush to her side. Instead, she heard a cold, mocking chuckle. David stood above her, swirling his champagne glass, a smug smirk on his face.

"Wow, too slow," David chuckled, showing no intention of helping her up.

A few guests laughed nervously, taking their cue from the groom. Jessica’s eyes welled with tears. But the real blow came from Beatrice, David’s elegant mother, who stood nearby in a navy designer dress. Swirling her red wine, Beatrice sneered down at Jessica with absolute contempt.

"What a shame," Beatrice said, her voice dripping with venom. "She doesn't even know how to sit properly. Quite embarrassing."

Wiping her tears, Jessica felt a sudden, icy resolve replace her sadness. She slowly slid the massive, multi-carat diamond ring off her finger and dropped it onto the table. The heavy metal clinked loudly. Just then, the grand double doors of the hall swung open. A man in a sharp grey suit holding a leather briefcase walked in. Jessica looked up, a cold smile forming on her lips.

"My lawyer is already here," she whispered.
