Previously: When Jessica fell on her wedding day, her groom and mother-in-law mocked her. But they didn't know her lawyer was already at the door with a secret that would ruin them.

The Reckoning

The arrival of Michael, the city’s most formidable forensic attorney, sent a shockwave through the head table. David’s smug expression instantly vanished, replaced by a look of sheer confusion. Beatrice, however, tried to maintain her aristocratic composure, scoffing loudly as Michael approached with measured, confident steps.

"A lawyer? At a wedding reception? What is the meaning of this ridiculous stunt, Jessica?" Beatrice hissed, her voice tight. "You have nothing. You came to this family with nothing but your father's old, failing name."

Michael stopped in front of the table, opening his leather briefcase with clinical precision. He pulled out a thick, bound document and slid it across the table, right next to the discarded diamond ring. Jessica stood up, dusting off her lace gown, her tears fully dried. She was no longer the fragile bride they thought they could break.

For the past three months, Jessica had secretly investigated the sudden decline of her late father’s estate. She had discovered a web of complex financial transfers that led directly to David and Beatrice’s private accounts. They had slowly drained her inheritance, using her trust fund to prop up their own crumbling real estate empire. The marriage was nothing but a trap to gain full legal control over the remaining assets.

"Actually, Beatrice, my father’s business didn't fail," Jessica said, her voice clear and strong. "You and David stole from it. You embezzled millions from my family’s charity fund, thinking I was too foolish to notice."

David grabbed the documents, his face turning pale as he scanned the detailed bank transactions and forensic audit reports. Michael stepped forward, his voice echoing through the silent hall.

"Mr. and Mrs. Vance, these documents prove systemic fraud and embezzlement," Michael stated calmly. "Furthermore, we have already filed a petition for immediate annulment on the grounds of severe financial deception. The police are waiting outside."

Beatrice’s face twisted in pure rage. She leaned in close, whispering a desperate, venomous threat.

"If you ruin us, Jessica, I will release the forged debt contracts your father supposedly signed," Beatrice snarled. "I will destroy his legacy and take your childhood home before the sun rises."
