My Husband Laughed When I Fell at Our Wedding, So I Called My Lawyer
The chandelier light of the grand banquet hall caught the intricate lace of Jessica’s wedding gown, casting a soft, romantic glow over the reception. From the outside, it was a fairytale. But inside Jessica's chest, a storm was brewing. She sat at the head table next to her new husband, David, feeling the heavy, suffocating weight of the ring on her finger. Suddenly, a sudden slip of her heel caused her chair to slide back, and Jessica tumbled to the polished wooden floor.
The reaction from her new family was instantaneous. Instead of concern, a wave of muffled laughter rippled through the guests. David didn't even reach down to help her. He simply chuckled, adjusting his black tuxedo.

"Wow, too slow," David said, a mocking smirk plastered across his face.
Jessica sat on the cold floor, her eyes stinging with tears of humiliation. Her mother-in-law, Beatrice, stood nearby, elegantly swirling her wine glass. She looked down at Jessica with pure disdain.
"What a shame," Beatrice sneered, her voice carrying over the whispers of the crowd. "She doesn't even know how to sit properly. I told you she lacked refinement, David."
Wiping a tear from her cheek, Jessica felt something shift inside her. The hurt vanished, replaced by a cold, sharp resolve. She slowly stood up, refusing to let them see her break. Without a word, she slid the massive diamond engagement ring off her finger and dropped it onto the table. It landed with a sharp clink right next to David’s champagne flute.
Before David or Beatrice could speak, the heavy oak doors of the ballroom swung open. A man in a sharp grey suit holding a leather briefcase stepped into the hall. Jessica looked up, a cold smile touching her lips.
"My lawyer is already here," Jessica whispered.
