Charles did not waste a moment. He gestured to his bodyguards, who immediately moved forward to restrain Thomas and Victoria. Victoria’s smug expression crumbled into a look of sheer panic as her wine glass shattered on the marble floor. Thomas tried to protest, but the guards dragged them both toward the private study, locking the heavy doors behind them.

Charles knelt beside Sarah, his stern face softening with genuine concern. He gently helped her stand, shielding her blood-stained gown with his own coat. "We need to get you to a doctor immediately, Sarah," he said, his voice laced with an urgency she had never heard before.

As the private car sped through the rainy night toward the clinic, Sarah clutched her stomach, her heart hammering against her ribs. She looked at the man who had built the Sterling empire, wondering why he was protecting her against his own flesh and blood. Charles sighed heavily, looking out at the passing city lights.

"There is something you must know, Sarah," Charles began, his voice barely a whisper. "Thomas is not my biological son. Years ago, my late wife had an affair with a ruthless business rival. I raised Thomas as my own to protect the family name, but he recently discovered the truth."

Sarah gasped, the pieces of the puzzle suddenly falling into place. "But why would he attack me?" she asked, trembling.

"Because of my will," Charles explained. "I have left the entire Sterling fortune to your unborn child. Thomas knows that once the baby is born, he will be completely written out. He wanted to ensure that child never saw the light of day."

Before Sarah could process the shock, Charles’s phone rang. It was the head of security. The panicked voice on the other end revealed that Thomas and Victoria had bribed a guard, escaped the manor, and were heading straight to the clinic with a team of corrupt lawyers and private security.
