Previously: When Sarah walked into her brightly lit entryway, she expected a quiet evening. Instead, she found her husband and sister with packed bags, ready to kick her out of her own inheritance.

A Calculated Betrayal

Sarah felt her knees grow weak as the reality of the scene began to crystallize. "Are you two... together?" she asked, the words tasting like ash in her mouth. She had spent seven years building a life with Mark, and a lifetime protecting Clara. To see them standing hand-in-hand was a double-edged sword piercing her chest.

"We've been together for two years, Sarah," Clara said, her voice dripping with artificial pity. "Mark needs someone who actually focuses on him, not someone who spends twenty-four hours a day weeping over a sick mother."

Mark reached into his pocket and pulled out a sleek leather folder, tossing it onto the marble entryway table. "This is a deed transfer," he announced coldly. "Last month, you signed the power of attorney over to me so I could 'manage' your mother's medical expenses. You signed everything, Sarah. The house, the trust, the family land—it all belongs to Clara and me now."

Sarah remembered that night clearly. She had been awake for forty-eight hours straight at the hospital. Mark had brought her a stack of papers to sign in the dim light of the waiting room, claiming they were urgent hospital authorizations. She had trusted her husband. She had signed where he pointed, never imagining he was signing away her entire life.

"You forged my consent," Sarah gasped, tears finally spilling over her cheeks. "This is grand larceny! You can't just take my parents' house!"
"We can, and we did," Mark sneered, opening the front door and letting the cold rain spray into the foyer. "Now, get out of our house before I have the police remove you for trespassing."

Clara laughed, a sound that shattered whatever sisterly love Sarah had left. Left with no options and facing the cold street, Sarah walked out into the storm, her mind racing as the heavy door slammed shut behind her.
