Previously: Melissa sat in an elegant restaurant, watching her greedy in-laws toast to stealing her father's empire. Little did they know, she was about to drop a devastating truth.

The Price of Betrayal

With a slow, deliberate movement, Melissa stood up and walked over to their table, pulling out the empty chair at the head of the board. Julian immediately smiled, though his eyes remained calculating and distant. He reached out to pat her hand, a gesture that once brought her comfort but now made her skin crawl.

"There she is," Julian said smoothly. "We were just celebrating the final merger papers, darling. Your father would be so proud to see his legacy in safe hands."

"Would he, Julian?" Melissa asked, her voice dropping the soft, grieving tone she had used for months. It was suddenly razor-sharp. She looked at Eleanor, who was wearing a diamond necklace that had once belonged to Melissa’s mother.

Richard frowned, sensing the sudden shift in the air. "Melissa, let's not get emotional. The business is in good hands now. You have your trust fund, and we have the responsibility. It's a win-win."

"It certainly would be, if the transfer documents were actually legal," Melissa replied. She reached into her bag and placed a thick, blue leather folder onto the center of the mahogany table, pushing aside a vase of fresh roses.

Julian laughed nervously. "What is this, Melissa? Some kind of joke?"

"Open it, Julian. Read the third page," Melissa commanded, her eyes locking onto his.

With trembling fingers, Julian opened the folder. As his eyes scanned the documents, his face turned ash-white. Inside were not just copies of the forged signatures on the transfer deeds, but a fully detailed forensic audit of their offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands. Beside those lay a signed confession from their family notary, admitting under oath that Julian had paid him fifty thousand dollars to notarize forged documents while Melissa was sedated in the hospital after her father’s funeral.

"This... this is impossible," Julian whispered, the arrogance completely draining from his voice. Eleanor snatched the papers, her eyes widening in sheer terror as she realized their entire empire was built on a crumbling foundation of lies.
