Previously: When a brutal prison bully demanded Amy's pristine white sneakers, she risked her life to say no. But those shoes held a secret that would change both of their destinies forever.

A Hidden Secret Revealed

The next afternoon, the tension exploded in the humid depths of the prison laundry room. Amy was folding heavy sheets when the heavy metal door clicked shut behind her. She turned around to see Beatrice and two of her associates blocking the exit. The guards were at the far end of the corridor, completely out of earshot. Beatrice stepped forward, holding a sharpened piece of metal she had smuggled from the metal shop.

'I told you that you'd regret crossing me,' Beatrice whispered, cornering Amy against a row of roaring industrial dryers.

Terrified but desperate, Amy swung a heavy laundry basket at Beatrice to defend herself. In the ensuing struggle, Amy tripped and fell hard onto the concrete floor. One of her white sneakers slipped off her foot. Beatrice eagerly snatched the shoe, believing that Amy’s fierce protection of it meant there was valuable contraband hidden inside. With a brutal twist of her blade, Beatrice sliced open the thick rubber sole.

But instead of illicit substances, a tiny, waterproof plastic packet fell out onto the floor. Inside was a micro-SD card and a tightly folded piece of paper. Amy watched in horror; she had no idea her defense attorney had secretly slipped this crucial evidence into the lining of her shoes during their last visitation.

Curious, Beatrice picked up the note and unfolded it. As her eyes scanned the frantic handwriting, the anger on her face instantly vanished, replaced by sheer shock. The note detailed the corrupt financial network that had framed Amy. But at the very top of the list, right next to Amy's ex-husband Marcus, was the name of the corrupt detective who had put Beatrice behind bars five years ago.

'This... this can't be,' Beatrice stammered, her hands trembling as she looked from the paper to Amy. 'We were set up by the same people.'

Before Amy could answer, the heavy, rhythmic thud of guards' boots echoed down the hallway. They were conducting an unscheduled sweep, and they were heading straight for the laundry room.
