Previously: When wealthy widow Clara fell off her luxury yacht, her son and daughter-in-law watched coldly as she sank. They thought they inherited her fortune—until she knocked on their door.

The Ghost at the Table

The atmosphere inside the high-rise conference room was solemn, yet a hidden current of excitement ran through Arthur and Chloe. Sitting at the long mahogany table, Chloe wore a stylish black mourning dress, though her eyes sparkled with anticipation. Arthur sat beside her, nervously tapping his pen against the legal documents that would transfer Clara's entire empire into their hands. The family lawyer, Mr. Vance, sighed heavily as he prepared the final signatures.

"According to the emergency clause," Mr. Vance explained, "in the event of Clara’s tragic disappearance and presumed death, the control of all corporate assets immediately devolves to Arthur."

Chloe nudged Arthur’s arm eagerly. "Sign it, darling. It’s what your mother would have wanted."

Just as Arthur lowered his pen to the paper, the heavy glass doors of the conference room swung open with a resounding click. The room fell into a suffocating silence as Clara stepped inside. She stood tall, her posture commanding, her eyes locked onto her trembling son. The color drained completely from Arthur’s face, and he dropped the pen, gasping as if he had seen a ghost. Chloe shrieked, stumbling backward in her chair.

"Mother?" Arthur stammered, his voice cracking with terror. "You... you're alive?"

"I am very much alive, Arthur," Clara said, her voice cold and steady as steel. "And I see you didn't waste any time trying to bury me."

Before they could formulate a lie, Clara signaled the door. Two police detectives stepped into the room, holding a folder of evidence. Clara had not just recovered at the fisherman's cottage; she had obtained the security footage from the yacht’s private cloud storage, which clearly showed Chloe pushing her and Arthur standing by doing nothing. As the handcuffs clicked around their wrists, Clara looked at her weeping son, realizing that true wealth lies not in what we possess, but in the integrity of those we choose to love.
