Previously: While waiting at a busy airport terminal, Claire’s wealthy son Leo runs into a dirty, terrified boy who looks exactly like him. The stranger wears a dog tag with a chilling secret.

The Shadow of a Seven-Year-Old Lie

The words engraved on the dog tag struck Claire like a physical blow. Seven years ago, she had given birth to twin boys in a private clinic. She remembered the agonizing labor, the hazy medication, and the devastating news Arthur had delivered while she wept in the hospital bed. "One of our boys didn't make it, Claire," he had whispered, holding her tight. "But we have to be strong for Leo." She had believed him. She had spent seven years grieving a child she thought was buried in a tiny, silent grave.

But the boy standing before her was alive. He had the exact same delicate jawline, the same hazel eyes, and even the tiny crescent-shaped birthmark near his collarbone. "Who... who gave you this tag, sweetie?" Claire asked, her voice cracking as she knelt on the hard marble floor, ignoring the dirt on her designer dress.

"The bad man," the boy, Alex, sobbed. "He pays the orphanage directors to keep me in the dark basement. He told me I was bad luck and could never leave. But I escaped this morning. I ran to the airport because I wanted to fly away."

Before Claire could ask more, a cold, familiar voice cut through the air. "Claire! What is the meaning of this? We are going to miss our flight!" Arthur walked up, his eyes sharp and demanding. But the moment his gaze fell upon Alex, the color drained completely from his face. His confident posture crumbled, replaced by a raw, naked terror.

Arthur lunged forward, grabbing Leo’s arm roughly. "We are leaving. Now. Security will handle this street urchin."

"Look at him, Arthur!" Claire screamed, standing up to block her husband. "He has Leo's face! He has the dog tag! You told me our second baby died!"

"He is a scammer, Claire! A beggar trying to steal from us!" Arthur hissed, his voice dropping to a low, venomous whisper. He stepped closer, his fingers digging into Claire's shoulder. "If you don't walk away right now, I will ruin you. I will take Leo, and you will never see him again. Choose wisely."
