My Son Kicked Me Into the Rain—Then Begged for My Life Savings
Previously: When Clara's son Daniel chose his demanding wife over his own mother, he left her in a rainstorm. Months later, he came crawling back with a desperate request.
The Uninvited Guest
The morning after the phone call, Clara sat at her small kitchen table, her hands wrapped around a warm mug of tea. The sting of Daniel's voice still lingered in her mind, but she felt a strange sense of peace. She had finally stood up for herself. However, that peace was shattered by a frantic knocking at her door. When Clara opened it, she gasped in shock. Standing on the concrete walkway was Nicole.
The woman who had once stood proud in an emerald green dress looked completely broken. Nicole was wearing an oversized hoodie, her hair was a tangled mess, and her face was pale and tear-stained. Without waiting for an invitation, she pushed past Clara and fell to her knees on the cold linoleum floor. "Clara, please, you have to help us," Nicole sobbed, clutching at the hem of Clara's sweater. "The bank is going to take the house. We have nowhere to go. I was wrong, I am so sorry for what I did!"

Clara looked down at her daughter-in-law, a mixture of pity and resentment swirling in her chest. Before she could speak, Nicole’s phone, which she had set on the table, lit up with a new text message notification. Because Nicole was weeping on the floor, Clara glanced down at the screen. The sender was Daniel.
The preview of the message made Clara’s blood run cold. It read: "Did the old woman buy the sob story? If she signs the papers, we can finally pay off my debt and get rid of her for good. Don't let her suspect anything."
Clara's breath caught in her throat. She realized with sickening clarity that Daniel had sent Nicole to act as a desperate beggar, playing on Clara's maternal instincts to steal her late husband's life insurance money. Even worse, Daniel was planning to take the money, settle his secret gambling debts, and abandon both his mother and his wife. Nicole was completely oblivious, being used as a pawn by the man they both had loved.
