Previously: When Martha's son chose his demanding wife over his own mother, he sent her packing into a raging storm. But when financial ruin knocked on his door, he expected her to save him.

The Desperate Plea

Weeks passed in a blur of gray, gloomy days. Martha managed to find a small, drafty room in a cheap motel on the outskirts of town. She spent her days in silence, listening to the hum of the old refrigerator and the distant roar of the highway. Her son had not called once to see if she was safe, warm, or even alive. She was entirely forgotten, cast aside like trash once her usefulness had expired.

But the silence was shattered one rainy afternoon. Martha’s phone rang, displaying James’s name on the screen. For a fleeting second, a spark of maternal hope flared in her chest. She picked up, expecting a tearful apology, a plea for forgiveness, or at least an inquiry about her well-being. Instead, she was met with a voice tight with panic and desperation.

"Mom, please, I need fifty thousand dollars to save my house. Yes or no?" James’s voice crackled through the cheap speaker.

Martha stared at the peeling wallpaper of her motel room. Her son didn't care about her. He only cared about his lifestyle, which was now crumbling due to Amanda’s reckless spending and their mounting debts. They were facing foreclosure, and James knew his mother possessed a secret savings account from his late father’s life insurance policy.

"Reap what you have sown, son," Martha whispered coldly, and hung up the phone.

But the nightmare was not over. The very next morning, a frantic pounding shook her motel door. When Martha opened it, she found James and Amanda standing in the rain. Amanda, devoid of her usual arrogance, fell to her knees on the wet concrete, begging for mercy. But James’s eyes held a dangerous glint. He stepped forward, lowering his voice. He revealed that while packing up Martha’s remaining belongings, he had found an old safety deposit box key and a hidden deed. A deed that proved the house James lived in didn't belong to him at all—it had been legally willed entirely to Martha by his father, and James had been living there under a forged signature.
