The realization hit Zoe like a physical blow. James hadn't just kicked her out to hide his theft; he had done it to prevent her from showing Emily the paperwork that would expose his entire fraudulent scheme. He was prepared to let Emily take the fall for his financial crimes.

Knowing they had to act fast, Sarah called a trusted family lawyer and the local police department. They spent the remainder of the night drafting a formal complaint.
