My Stepmother Stopped My Wheelchair Wedding With a Shocking Family Secret
Previously: On the happiest day of her life, Emily’s wedding is interrupted by her bitter stepmother, who reveals a devastating secret about the accident that put both her and her groom in wheelchairs.
The Disruption
The joyous applause died down instantly, replaced by a tense, suffocating silence. Emily turned her wheelchair toward the entrance, her heart dropping into her stomach. Standing in the doorway was her stepmother, Helen, her face twisted in a cold, triumphant sneer. Helen had never hidden her disdain for Emily, especially after Emily's father had passed away, leaving his modest estate to his daughter. Helen marched down the aisle, her heels clicking loudly against the marble floor, clutching a thick manila envelope.
"Stop this wedding right now!" Helen screamed, her voice echoing off the high stone walls. "This marriage is a farce, and I am not going to let this innocent girl destroy her life by marrying a monster!"
Emily’s breath caught in her throat. She looked at David, expecting him to defend their love, but he had gone completely pale, his eyes fixed on the floor. His hands were trembling violently. Helen stopped at the altar, throwing the heavy manila envelope directly into Emily's lap.

"Open it, Emily," Helen hissed. "Read the official police report from the night of your hit-and-run accident. See who really ruined your life."
With trembling fingers, Emily opened the envelope. Inside were police documents and photos of her crushed vehicle from three years ago. As her eyes scanned the pages, her heart stopped. The SUV that had crossed the median and paralyzed her belonged to David's family. And the primary suspect listed on the initial report was David himself.
Tears of shock and betrayal welled in Emily's eyes. She turned to David, her voice barely a whisper. "David, please tell me this is a mistake. Tell me you didn't do this." But David couldn't look at her, his tears falling silently onto his suit. Helen smiled maliciously. "He sought you out in rehab because of his guilt, Emily! He wanted to keep you quiet so you wouldn't sue his family!"
