Previously: David cradled his newborn twins, grieving his late wife, when his wealthy mother-in-law arrived with a team of lawyers and a shocking demand that threatened to tear his new family apart.

The Arrival of the Matriarch

It was Eleanor, Sarah’s estranged and incredibly wealthy mother. She marched down the corridor like a general entering a battlefield, flanked by two men in immaculate, dark business suits. These were her family’s high-priced corporate attorneys. Eleanor did not look like a grandmother mourning the loss of her only daughter; her eyes were cold, calculating, and fixed entirely on the infants in David’s arms.

"Hand them over, David," Eleanor said, her voice cutting through the sterile air like glass. "They belong to the Vance family now."

David stepped back, his protective instincts instantly flaring. He held his daughters tighter against his chest.

"What are you doing, Eleanor? Sarah just passed away. These are my daughters!" David shouted, his voice trembling with anger and grief.

Eleanor sneered, gesturing to the lead attorney, who stepped forward and presented a thick manila folder.

"These are emergency custody papers," the lawyer stated coldly. "We are petitioning for immediate guardianship. You are a high school teacher with no assets, currently suffering from severe emotional trauma. You cannot provide for these children."

Before David could even process the cruelty, Eleanor delivered a devastating blow. She claimed that Sarah had been unfaithful, asserting that David wasn't even the biological father of the twins. She demanded an immediate DNA test, confident that her wealth and influence could manipulate the outcome to strip David of his parental rights forever.

Desperate and cornered, David looked to Dr. Evans, the senior pediatrician who had overseen the delivery. Dr. Evans, disgusted by Eleanor's predatory behavior, stepped in. He agreed to run an expedited, secure DNA test right there in the hospital lab, away from any outside interference. For six grueling hours, David sat in a private waiting room, holding his daughters and praying. Finally, Dr. Evans returned, holding the sealed results, his face pale and filled with sheer disbelief.
