The Nanny-Cam Caught My Stepmother's Deadly Plot — My Father's Reaction Left Everyone Stunned
The Runaway Carriage on the Marble Terrace
The morning sun spilled over the Newport mansion like liquid gold, painting the white limestone statues in hues of amber and rose. I was Nora, the governess, but on that day, I was a woman about to become a criminal in the eyes of the man I served.
I had just settled Chloe into her silver-plated English perambulator, the one with the chrome brake chain that clicked so satisfyingly when locked. She was a cherub, all dimpled cheeks and lavender ruffles, and my heart melted every time she giggled.

I turned for one second to adjust the sun canopy, and that's when I heard it—the faint, metallic screech of a chain being unhooked. I spun around just in time to see the perambulator begin rolling down the limestone ramp, picking up speed, heading straight for the sunken lily pool.
"No!" The word tore from my throat as I launched myself forward, my navy-and-white uniform soaking through with sweat and fear.
I hit the stone surface hard, my knee scraping against the rough edge, but I didn't feel it. All I saw was Chloe's little face, her eyes wide with confusion, as the carriage rolled faster.
I wedged my body at the bottom of the ramp, bracing for the impact. The heavy silver frame slammed into my shin, and I gasped, but I grabbed Chloe in the same motion, pulling her into my arms, cradling her against my chest.
"I have you, sweet pea!" I whispered, my voice trembling. "The wheels stopped right against my knee, you're completely safe!"
Chloe blinked up at me, then broke into a delighted laugh, as if it were all a game. But I knew better. Someone had unhooked that brake chain on purpose.
I looked up to see Tiffany, my stepmother, standing at the top of the terrace, her icy blonde ponytail swinging as she pressed a manicured hand to her chest in mock horror. "Heaven help us!" she screeched. "Nora just let go of Chloe's carriage at the top of the lily pool ramp!"
My blood ran cold. She was blaming me. And then I saw Victor, Chloe's father, striding out of the mansion, his dark eyes narrowing like storm clouds gathering over the ocean.
"Is this true, Nora?" His voice was low, dangerous. "Did you let go of my daughter?"
I shook my head, tears mingling with the water droplets on my cheeks. "That's untrue! My knee is scraped because I threw myself in front of the ramp after someone unhooked the brake chain!"
"Father, don't believe Tiffany—watch the nanny-cam recording from two minutes ago!"
Lucas Jr. burst onto the terrace, his burgundy blazer flapping, holding my silver tablet aloft. His voice rang out clear and bold, silencing everyone.
Tiffany's face went pale as the blood drained from her cheeks. Victor's gaze flicked to the tablet, then back to Tiffany, and I saw the first crack in her perfect facade.
