Previously: Officer William checked Dorothy's heavy burlap sack at the border every single day, finding nothing but grain. It took a quiet evening and a sudden realization to uncover the truth.

The Suspicion Grows

Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months. Every single evening, without fail, Dorothy would appear at the checkpoint. She always wore the same beige headscarf, pushed a classic bicycle, and carried a heavy burlap sack of grain. William searched her every time, but the result was always the same: just ordinary wheat. The daily ritual became a running joke among the other officers, who teased William for being so thorough with an old grandmother.

However, the teasing stopped when Captain Miller, a strict and unforgiving supervisor, arrived for an unannounced inspection. When Miller saw Dorothy approaching, he immediately sensed something was wrong. He refused to let her pass with a simple check. Under Miller's harsh command, William was forced to empty the entire burlap sack onto the dirt road. They sifted through the grain, grain by grain, finding absolutely nothing. Miller then turned his fury toward the bicycle, demanding it be dismantled to check for hidden compartments in the frame.

Frustrated and embarrassed, Miller ordered William to ban the woman from crossing ever again. But William couldn't let it go. The sheer desperation in Dorothy's eyes haunted him. He knew she was hiding something, but it wasn't inside the sack, and it wasn't hidden inside the bicycle frame.

The next evening, determined to find the truth on his own terms, William waited until his shift ended. Instead of heading home, he hid his car near the border and waited. When he saw Dorothy walking back empty-handed, he quietly followed her at a distance, determined to discover where she went and what she was truly doing.
