Previously: When a quiet woman tries to check into an airport USO lounge, a startled officer recognizes her legendary military ID, triggering a high-stakes confrontation with a ghost from her past.

A Shadow from the Past

As Amanda walked away from the USO desk, the brief warmth of Andrew's welcome evaporated. Her tactical instincts flared. A man in a tailored dark suit was moving parallel to her, his stride synchronized with hers. She turned toward the baggage claim, hoping to lose him in the sea of tourists, but the man was relentless. He cut through the crowd, stepping directly into her path.

When she looked up, her blood ran cold. It was Marcus, an intelligence contractor who had betrayed her unit five years ago in the mountains of the Hindu Kush—an ambush that had claimed the life of her husband and earned her the tragic moniker "Black Widow." The world believed Marcus was dead, but here he stood, alive and smiling.

"Hello, Amanda," Marcus whispered, his voice dripping with venom. "Did you really think you could disappear forever?"

Amanda stood her ground, her muscles tensing. "What do you want, Marcus?"

"The encrypted drive your husband died to protect," Marcus sneered, shifting his coat to reveal the silenced pistol tucked into his waistband. "I know you have it. And if you don't hand it over in ten minutes, my men will eliminate your sister Sarah in Boston. She's being watched right now."

Panic threatened to seize her, but Amanda forced herself to think. Before she could react, Andrew, the officer from the USO desk, appeared by her side. He had noticed the tense interaction and stepped in, his presence imposing.

"Is there a problem here, ma'am?" Andrew asked, his eyes locked onto Marcus.
"Move along, officer. This is private business," Marcus warned, his hand drifting toward his weapon.

Amanda knew Marcus wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger in the crowded terminal. She had to protect Andrew, and more importantly, she had to save her sister. She looked at Andrew, silent tension hanging in the air, knowing her next move would decide who lived and who died.
