Previously: Every Tuesday, an elderly woman crossed the border with a sack of grain. The officer searched it thoroughly every time, completely unaware of the shocking secret hidden right before his eyes.

For months, the routine continued. But Margaret’s secret was not as safe as she believed. Her neighbor, a bitter and envious man named Thomas, had grown suspicious of her weekly trips. He had noticed her empty shed, the steady stream of identical black bicycles, and her sudden ability to afford expensive medical treatments for her sick granddaughter, Clara. One night, Thomas crept to her window and gasped as he saw Margaret carefully sliding heavy, antique gold coins into the hollow tubes of a dismantled bicycle frame.

The following Tuesday, the atmosphere at the checkpoint was entirely different. As Margaret approached, she noticed a police cruiser parked near the barrier. Three additional officers stood beside Robert, their faces grim. Next to them stood Thomas, wearing a smug, triumphant grin.

The Trap is Sprung

Margaret’s heart hammered against her ribs. She tried to maintain her composure, but her hands shook violently on the handlebars.

"Stop right there, Margaret," Robert commanded, his tone unusually cold.

Before she could speak, Thomas stepped forward, pointing an accusing finger. "She’s a smuggler! Don't bother checking that stupid sack of grain! The gold is hidden inside the frame of the bicycle! She’s been doing it for months!"

The other officers immediately stepped toward Margaret, their hands resting on their holsters. One of them produced a heavy metal wrench.

"Is this true, Margaret?" one of the officers asked, his voice stern. "We need to inspect the vehicle."

Margaret looked at Robert, her eyes pleading. If they took the gold, Clara’s final life-saving surgery would be canceled, and she would lose her granddaughter forever. She felt the cold sweat dripping down her neck. Robert walked over to the bicycle. He placed his gloved hand on the handlebars, feeling the immense, unnatural weight of the frame. He looked at Margaret, and in his eyes, she saw a flicker of profound sadness—and a sudden, shocking realization. He had always known.
