Previously: When a wealthy man tastes a pastry from a humble street cart, a long-buried family secret unravels, forcing him to confront the mother he thought had abandoned him.

A Confrontation in the Mist

The silence that followed Clara’s confession was suffocating. Thomas stood frozen, holding the tattered photograph as the damp alley air swirled around them. Sarah looked between Thomas and the old baker, her face a mask of disbelief and rising anger.

"Thomas, what is going on?" Sarah demanded, tugging at his sleeve. "This is absurd. This woman is a stranger. She probably found that photo or bought it. Your mother died when you were a baby. Your father told you that."

But Thomas wasn't listening. He was staring at Clara’s eyes, finding the same warmth and sorrow that had haunted his dreams for decades. Before he could speak, the sharp slam of a car door echoed through the narrow alley. A sleek black limousine had pulled up at the corner, and an elderly, imposing man stepped out. It was Richard, the powerful billionaire who had adopted Thomas and raised him in a world of immense wealth and cold expectations.

Richard marched down the cobblestones, flanked by two burly security guards. His eyes locked onto Clara, and his face twisted into a snarl of cold fury.

"Thomas, step away from that woman immediately," Richard commanded, his voice cutting through the fog like a knife. "She is a delusional grifter. I warned her thirty years ago to stay away from my family."

Thomas turned to his adoptive father, his voice shaking but resolute.

"Father, look at this photo," Thomas said, holding up the damp paper. "Look at the cart. Look at her. She knows the secret ingredient. The orange blossom and honey. No one else knew that."

Richard didn't even look at the photo. Instead, he gestured coldly to his guards.

"Get this trash out of here," Richard ordered. "Destroy the cart. She is trespassing and harassing my son."

As the guards stepped forward to grab Clara, Thomas stepped in front of his biological mother, his eyes flashing with a fire Richard had never seen before.

"Touch her, and I walk away from the company, the family, and everything you own," Thomas declared, his voice echoing off the brick walls. "I want the truth, Father. And I want it now."
