Previously: When newborn baby Leo flatlined in the NICU, doctors told Heather and Daniel there was no hope. But their six-year-old son Dylan refused to let go, triggering a medical miracle.

The relief of Leo’s miraculous recovery was short-lived. By the next morning, the clinical warmth of the hospital had turned freezing cold. Heather and Daniel were summoned to a private office on the top floor by Dr. Vance, the hospital's chief of pediatrics. He sat behind a massive mahogany desk, his hands trembling slightly as he adjusted his glasses.

A Dark Conspiracy

"We have run a full diagnostic on the NICU equipment from last night," Dr. Vance began, his voice barely above a whisper. "And I am afraid I have some highly disturbing news. Leo’s heart monitor did not fail naturally. Someone manually overrode the system to simulate a flatline and restrict the oxygen flow to his incubator."

Heather gasped, clutching Daniel’s hand. "What? Who would do that to a baby?"

"We reviewed the security footage and system logs," Dr. Vance said, sliding a folder across the desk. "It was Dr. Stone. He has been suspended immediately, and we are contacting the authorities."

Shocked and furious, Daniel and Heather marched down to the staff wing to find the man who had supposedly saved their son. They found Dr. Stone in the breakroom, packing his belongings under the watchful eyes of two burly security guards.

"You monster!" Daniel shouted. "How could you try to kill our son?"

Dr. Stone spun around, his face pale but his eyes fierce with conviction. He stepped past the guards, pointing a finger at the chief's office upstairs.

"You don't understand!" Dr. Stone pleaded. "Vance is lying to you! The hospital's main oxygen line to that wing was contaminated with toxic mold. They knew it, and they didn't want to pay for a massive recall and lawsuit. I didn't cut Leo's oxygen to hurt him; I did it to force the backup emergency tanks to kick in! It was the only way to save his lungs!"

Before Dr. Stone could say more, Dr. Vance arrived with reinforcements, ordering the guards to drag him out. Vance then turned to the terrified parents, his demeanor shifting from concerned administrator to ruthless businessman.

"Sign this non-disclosure agreement," Vance demanded, placing a document on the table. "If you do not, we will deem your son's condition too unstable for this facility and have him transferred immediately. And I assure you, no other hospital in this state will accept him."
