The whispers in the ballroom rose to a fever pitch as Richard, desperate to salvage his reputation, grabbed Sarah by the arm and guided her into a private, wood-paneled study adjacent to the hall. Eleanor followed closely behind, slamming the heavy door shut. The elegant atmosphere of the gala instantly vanished, replaced by a suffocating tension.

"Are you completely out of your mind?" Richard hissed, his face contorting with rage. "You think you can come here, in that ridiculous suit, and humiliate us? We disowned you! You are nothing to this family!"

Eleanor stepped forward, her eyes flashing with malice.

"You always did know how to ruin everything, Sarah," Eleanor sneered. "Your father is on the verge of securing the biggest military contract of his career, and you show up like a ghost to sabotage us. Leave now, before we have security throw you out."

Sarah stood her ground, her posture straight and unyielding. The years of discipline and leadership had forged her into a woman who could not be intimidated by petty threats.

"Security won't touch me, Eleanor," Sarah replied, her voice cool and collected. "And I didn't come here to sabotage you. I came here to do my job."

Before Richard could launch into another tirade, the door opened, and Arthur stepped inside. He carried a thick, leather-bound folder under his arm. He bypassed Richard entirely, walking over to Sarah and handing her the documents with a respectful nod.

"The files you requested, General," Arthur said.

Richard’s breath caught in his throat. The realization of Sarah's actual rank and authority began to sink in.

"What is the meaning of this?" Richard stammered, his voice losing its aggressive edge.

Sarah opened the folder, revealing pages of financial audits and contract bids.

"Vanguard Defense has been bidding for the new defense contract," Sarah explained, looking her father in the eye. "As the newly appointed Major General overseeing procurement, I am the ultimate authority on who receives it. And during our preliminary audit, we discovered some very serious financial discrepancies."
