Previously: When Clara recognized her grown son on a damp cobblestone street, a single bite of her signature pastry unlocked a lifetime of buried secrets and a heartbreaking truth.

The emotional reunion on the damp cobblestones was abruptly shattered by the screech of tires. A sleek, black luxury sedan pulled up to the curb, and the rear door flew open. Out stepped Arthur, Thomas's wealthy and influential father. His face darkened with immediate fury as his eyes fell upon Clara. For decades, Arthur had kept Thomas hidden, telling him his mother had run away because she didn't want the burden of a child. Seeing her now, holding her wooden cart, threatened to unravel thirty-four years of carefully crafted lies.

The Confrontation

"Thomas, get away from that woman!"
Arthur commanded, his voice cold and booming. He marched over, his expensive leather shoes clicking loudly on the wet stone.
"She is a delusional stranger trying to scam you. Sarah, please take Thomas to the car."

But Thomas didn't move. He stood frozen, his eyes dating between the tattered black-and-white photograph and the wealthy man who had raised him.

"Father, look at this photo,"
Thomas demanded, his voice shaking.
"And this pastry... it's the exact taste from the few happy memories I have of my early childhood. You told me my mother died in an accident, and then you told me she abandoned us. Which is the truth?"

Arthur sneered, stepping between Thomas and Clara, attempting to shield his son from the elderly woman.

"She is nothing but a ghost from a past we moved beyond, Thomas. She left us because she preferred a life of instability over being a mother. Don't let a cheap pastry and an old photo fool you,"
Arthur lied smoothly, though his clenched fists betrayed his panic. Clara stepped forward, her voice ringing with newfound strength.
"I never left him, Arthur! You threatened to destroy my family and put my son in danger if I didn't disappear. You used your wealth to erase me!"
The tension on the quiet street grew suffocating as Thomas looked at his father, waiting for a denial that didn't come.
