Previously: When young Lily walked into Arthur's humble shoe workshop barefoot, he gave her his finest leather shoes for free. Decades later, as a successful businesswoman, she finally set out to find her savior.

The Shadow of Greed

The search for Arthur led Lily back to the crumbling neighborhood of her youth, but the reality she discovered was far grimmer than she had ever anticipated. Her investigator had tracked Arthur and Martha to a small, decaying townhouse, the last standing structure on a block earmarked for a massive commercial development. When Lily arrived, the scene before her made her blood run cold. A massive yellow bulldozer sat idle at the curb, its diesel engine rumbling like a beast waiting to strike.

On the front porch, a frail, white-haired Arthur stood with his arm wrapped protectively around Martha, who was weeping into a faded apron. Standing before them was a group of ruthless men in expensive, tailored suits. The leader of the group, a cold-faced man named Julian, was aggressively waving eviction papers.

"You've had your warnings, old man. Get out now, or we throw your junk in the street,"
Julian sneered, his voice completely devoid of empathy.

Lily stepped out of her vehicle, her heels clicking sharply against the pavement as she marched toward the crowd. As she drew closer, she recognized Julian. He was Arthur's estranged nephew, a man who had built a career on predatory real estate deals after abandoning the family that raised him. Julian looked up, his sneer faltering as he recognized Lily, a powerful figure in the city's business sector.

"Miss Lily? What are you doing in a dump like this?"
Julian asked, his tone instantly shifting to a sycophantic purr.

Lily ignored him entirely, her eyes locked on the elderly shoemaker. Arthur squinted through his faded vision, trying to place the elegant woman standing before him.

"Do you remember me, Arthur?"
Lily asked softly, her voice trembling with emotion as she stepped onto the porch.
"I told you I would pay you back."
