Previously: Desperate to escape a forced marriage, wealthy heiress Amelia proposes to a scarred homeless man on a rainy street. But when he touches her ring, a terrifying truth about his past is unleashed.

The Pursuit on the Bridge

Chaos erupted on the rain-slicked street. Amelia’s security team clashed with the operatives arriving from the SUV.

"Get him into the car!"
Amelia shouted, grabbing Lucas by his trembling arm. He was disoriented, his mind fractured by the sudden rush of lost memories. She pulled him into the back of her armored vehicle, and the driver slammed on the gas, roaring away from the scene.

Inside the speeding car, Lucas was hyperventilating, clutching his head in agony.

"Who am I? Why does my head hurt so much?"
he cried out, staring at his scarred hands.

Amelia took off her sunglasses, her eyes filled with tears. She placed her hands on his cold, wet cheeks.

"Your name is Lucas Vance,"
she said softly.
"You are the rightful heir to the Vance estate. Two years ago, your stepbrother Julian tried to murder you on a stormy night. Everyone thought you died, but you survived—with no memory of who you were."

Lucas stared at her, his breathing slowing.

"I remember... fire. A bridge. Someone pushing me into the dark water,"
he whispered, the pieces of his past slowly aligning.

Before Amelia could comfort him, a violent impact jolted the SUV. Julian’s black trucks had caught up to them, ramming their bumper. The chase escalated onto a narrow suspension bridge. Julian's drivers worked in tandem, forcing Amelia's vehicle into a brutal spin. The SUV crashed hard against the concrete barrier, the airbags deploying in a cloud of white smoke.

Through the cracked windshield, Amelia saw Julian step out of his car, holding a heavy metal crowbar. He walked slowly toward them, a sadistic grin on his face. He shattered the driver's side window and dragged a dazed Amelia out onto the wet road.

"Game over, sister,"
Julian sneered, grabbing the semi-conscious Lucas by his collar.
