Previously: When three arrogant young men confronted a quiet elder on a misty dock and destroyed his fishing rod, they thought he was an easy target—until his true identity was revealed.

The Escalation on the Dock

Thomas slowly rose to his feet. Though his joints ached from the damp cold, he stood tall, revealing a commanding stature that his corduroy jacket had hidden. Before retiring to this quiet lakeside town, Thomas had spent thirty years as a highly decorated federal marshal. He had faced down armed cartels and desperate fugitives; three arrogant local bullies were nothing to him.

"You boys should walk away," Thomas said, his voice low and steady.

Derek laughed, entirely misjudging the situation. He reached out, grabbing Thomas by the collar of his jacket.

"What are you gonna do about it, grandpa? You want to join your toy in the water?" Derek threatened.

In a fraction of a second, Thomas’s old training took over. He seized Derek’s wrist, twisting it sharply while stepping inside his guard. With a swift, practiced sweep, Thomas sent the larger young man crashing to his knees on the wet dock, pinning his arm behind his back. Derek cried out in pain, his arrogance evaporating instantly.

Jason and the third youth, Mark, froze in absolute shock. Before they could react, the roar of powerful engines pierced the foggy air. Two black SUVs and a marked sheriff's deputy cruiser tore down the dirt path, slamming their brakes near the dock.

Armed deputies spilled out, weapons drawn, alongside a tall man in a tailored suit. The sheriff, a stern man named Miller, rushed onto the dock.

"Drop your weapons and get on the ground!" Sheriff Miller bellowed at the terrified youths.

The young men instantly raised their hands, trembling. But the real shock came when the sheriff bypassed the boys entirely, stepping toward Thomas with deep respect.

"Are you alright, Judge Vance?" Sheriff Miller asked. "Your son called us when you didn't answer your phone."

The man in the suit, Thomas's son David, ran forward, looking at the boys with fury.

"Do you have any idea who you just assaulted?" David hissed at the trembling teenagers.
