The Boy in the Red Backpack

Nineteen-year-old Ryan had always been taught by his billionaire father, Arthur, that true character is revealed when people think you have nothing. That was why, on the morning of his nineteenth birthday, Ryan agreed to a test. Instead of arriving in a chauffeured limousine to pick out his birthday present, he took the subway, dressed in faded jeans, a simple t-shirt, and carrying his old red backpack. His destination was the city's most prestigious luxury car dealership, a crown jewel in his family's massive corporate empire.

The showroom was blindingly bright, filled with the scent of fine leather and polished chrome. Gleaming sports cars stood like sculptures on the pristine marble floor. Several sales representatives stood in a cluster, laughing and chatting, but as soon as Ryan walked in, their smiles faded. They took one look at his casual attire and turned their backs, dismissing him as a daydreaming teenager who had wandered in off the street. Ryan didn't care; his eyes were locked onto a magnificent, midnight-black sports car in the center of the room.

Entranced by the vehicle, Ryan walked over and gently placed his hand on the cool, flawless hood. Suddenly, a shadow fell over him, and a harsh, aggressive voice shattered the quiet atmosphere.

"Don't touch that! You could work your whole life and never pay for even the tires!"

Before Ryan could even turn around, a powerful hand shoved him hard in the shoulder. He lost his footing on the slick marble, crashing heavily to the floor. His backpack spilled open, and pain flared in his elbow. Standing over him was Nicholas, a senior salesman wearing a sharp navy tie, his face contorted in snobbish disgust.

But before Nicholas could utter another insult, the glass doors flew open. Philip, the family’s elderly and loyal butler, rushed inside. Seeing Ryan on the floor, the distinguished older man bypassed the shocked staff and knelt by his side.

"Young master, I am so sorry! Are you hurt?"

The showroom fell dead silent. Nicholas's face drained of all color as the realization of his catastrophic mistake began to set in. Ryan slowly stood up, brushed off his jeans, and pointed coldly at the terrified salesman.

"Fire him. Right now. And clear the room."

Right now. And clear the room."
