Previously: When Wyatt dragged a freezing wolf from a cracked ice sheet, he thought he was just doing a good deed. He never expected the pack to follow him home during the worst blizzard of the decade.

The Threat on the Porch

Instead of attacking, the massive alpha wolf stepped forward, sniffing the shivering young pup Wyatt had just saved. The pack gathered around the young wolf, licking his frozen fur to warm him. The alpha turned his amber eyes toward Wyatt, letting out a low whine that sounded almost like gratitude, before leading the pack back into the safety of the dense forest. Shivering violently and losing sensation in his fingers, Wyatt struggled back to his cabin, barely managing to stoke his fireplace before the storm fully hit.

By nightfall, the blizzard had escalated into a historic monster. The fierce winds knocked out the local power grid, leaving Wyatt's cabin in complete darkness. As he huddled near the fading warmth of his fireplace, a heavy scratching sound came from his front door. Grabbing his rifle, Wyatt cautiously opened the heavy oak door, only to find the entire wolf pack huddled on his covered porch. They were seeking shelter from the deadly wind, and they had come to the only human they knew they could trust.

Wyatt didn't hesitate. He brought out old blankets and heavy canvas tarps, laying them down to protect the animals from the freezing draft. But the temporary peace was shattered the following morning by the loud, aggressive roar of snowmobiles. A local rancher named Vance, notorious for his hatred of predators, rode onto Wyatt's property accompanied by three armed men.

"Step aside, Wyatt," Vance growled, his high-powered rifle pointed directly at the porch. "Those beasts killed two of my calves last week. We're putting them down right now."

The wolves backed into the corner of the porch, growling defensively. Wyatt stood tall, stepping directly between the armed men and the terrified pack. He refused to let them slaughter the animals he had risked his life to save. Vance sneered, chambering a round. The tension was suffocating, and Wyatt knew a single misstep would lead to a bloody tragedy.
