Connor had spent his entire high school career perfecting the art of being invisible. Wearing oversized grey hoodies and keeping his head down, he was the classic quiet kid. But on a Tuesday afternoon in the main hallway of Oakridge High, his invisibility cloak was violently stripped away. Wyatt, the school’s star quarterback, shoved Connor hard from behind. The impact sent Connor sprawling onto the cold linoleum, his notebooks and carefully organized papers scattering across the floor.

Wyatt stood over him, a smug, arrogant grin plastered across his face. He adjusted his navy varsity jacket, basking in the immediate attention. Within seconds, a dozen classmates surrounded them, their smartphones raised to record the humiliation. Laughter echoed off the teal lockers.

Instead of scrambling to gather his papers or crying out in fear, Connor did something unexpected. He sat quietly on the floor, took a deep breath, and slowly removed his glasses. He placed them gently on top of his ruined homework. The crowd’s laughter began to die down, replaced by a tense, curious silence.

Connor stood up, his movements slow, deliberate, and entirely devoid of fear. He looked Wyatt dead in the eye. Then, he reached down and rolled up his sleeves. Underneath the baggy fabric of his grey hoodie, his hands and wrists were wrapped in professional white fighter’s wraps. For three years, Connor had been training in secret at his uncle’s boxing gym, learning how to defend himself.

"You think those wraps make you a fighter, Connor?" Wyatt sneered, though his voice betrayed a sudden flicker of doubt.

The tension in the hallway was palpable. Connor didn't say a word. He simply raised his hands into a defensive guard, his eyes locked onto Wyatt with an intense, fearless gaze. The bully had chosen the wrong target.
