Previously: When a burly knight failed to pull the legendary sword from the stone, he declared it impossible. But when a dusty stable boy stepped forward, the kingdom's deepest secret was finally unearthed.

The Wrath of the Fallen Knight

The moment Arthur’s fingers closed around the leather, the cold stone cleft fell dead silent. A sudden, radiant golden light erupted from the deep runes carved into the blade, cutting through the thick fog like a beacon. With no effort at all, Arthur pulled backward. The legendary broadsword slid from the broken stone with a soft, metallic hiss, gleaming as if it had just been forged in the fires of the heavens.

The knights gasped, several of them instantly dropping to their knees in sheer reverence. But Sir Borin’s face contorted with a mixture of shock and violent jealousy. He could not accept that a mere stable boy, a servant he had tormented for years, possessed the bloodline of kings.

"Sacrilege!" Borin roared, drawing his own heavy steel blade. "The boy has used dark magic to trick us! He is a thief and a sorcerer!"

With a desperate scream, Borin lunged forward, swinging his massive sword directly at Arthur’s head. Instinct took over. Arthur raised the glowing broadsword, and the clash of steel rang out like thunder. The sheer force of the blow sent the boy tumbling into the wet mud, but the legendary weapon remained unbroken.

Before Borin could strike again, an elderly man in tattered robes scrambled down from the rocky ridge. It was the high priest of the old temple. He pointed a trembling finger at Arthur’s shoulder, where the struggle had torn his linen shirt open.

"Stop, Borin!" the priest cried. "Look at his shoulder! The mark of the crescent moon! He is the lost prince who escaped the massacre twenty years ago!"

Borin froze, his face turning pale. In his panic, his grip on his sword slipped. "It cannot be," Borin muttered under his breath, loud enough for all to hear. "I personally ensured the royal bloodline was ended that night." The confession hung in the misty air, revealing the dark truth of the knight's past treason.
