Matthew scoffed at Amanda's warning, a smug grin returning to his face. He gestured to two military police officers who had rushed into the dining hall after hearing the commotion. "Arrest her," Matthew commanded, pointing an accusatory finger at Amanda. "She's a civilian trespasser who snuck onto this base to stalk and harass me. She's unstable."

The MPs hesitated for a brief second, looking at the tense standoff, before stepping toward Amanda. Matthew smirked, confident that his uniform and rank would shield him from any consequences. He had spent years making Amanda feel powerless, and he believed this base was his personal kingdom where she could never touch him.

But Amanda didn't move. She calmly reached into her jacket and pulled out a leather case, flipping it open to reveal a gold-shielded federal badge.

"I am Investigator Amanda Vance from the Department of Defense,"

she announced, her voice carrying across the silent hall.

"I am here on official orders to conduct an unannounced audit of this unit's logistics division."

The MPs froze, immediately recognizing the high-level federal credentials. Matthew’s face drained of color, his smugness evaporating into sheer panic. He began stammering, claiming the badge was a fake, but his desperate protests were cut short as the dining hall doors swung open. Colonel Harris, the base commander, marched into the room flanked by his staff.

Matthew rushed to salute the Colonel, desperately trying to control the narrative. "Colonel! This woman is an impostor!" he pleaded. But Colonel Harris ignored him entirely, walking straight to Amanda and shaking her hand.

"Investigator Vance, we are fully prepared to assist your investigation,"

the Colonel said. Amanda looked at Matthew, whose world was crumbling around him, and then turned her attention to young Private Tyler, who was still standing nearby.
