Previously: When Victoria bragged about her husband's immense wealth at a lavish wedding, she didn't expect her spouse to drop to his knees in front of the man she was mocking.

The Mask Slips

The silence that enveloped the garden was suffocating. Victoria stared at her husband, her face contorting from smug satisfaction to utter bewilderment. She reached out, grabbing Charles’s arm and trying to pull him upright.

"Charles! What on earth are you doing?" she hissed, her voice cracking under the strain of her embarrassment. "Stand up! Why are you bowing to Sarah’s husband? He is nobody!"

Charles violently shook her hand off, turning on her with a desperate, furious glare. "Shut up, Victoria!" he whispered harshly, his voice carrying just enough to reach the surrounding guests. "Do you have any idea who this is? This is Arthur Vance. He is the founder and majority shareholder of the Vance Group. He literally owns the company that funds my entire firm!"

The revelation rippled through the crowd like a shockwave. Whispers broke out among the elite guests, their eyes darting between the quietly dressed Arthur and the trembling groom. Victoria staggered back, her hand clutching her diamond necklace as if it were suddenly choking her.

Arthur looked down at Charles, his expression cold and unyielding.

"I decided to attend your wedding in person, Charles, because our internal audit team raised some very serious questions about your recent acquisitions," Arthur said, his calm voice carrying an undeniable authority. "It seems you have been using our development funds to finance this lavish lifestyle."

Charles fell to his knees on the manicured grass, tears of panic welling in his eyes. He begged for mercy, but Arthur remained unmoved. From the edge of the garden, four men in dark suits appeared, accompanied by two police officers. They walked directly toward the terrified groom, ready to put an end to the charade.
