Previously: Twenty years ago, a penniless young girl made a promise to a kind shoemaker who gave her a pair of shoes. Now a successful businesswoman, she finally tracks him down.

Within hours, Lily’s team tracked down Arthur’s whereabouts, but the news they brought back was devastating. The cozy old workshop had been torn down years ago, and Arthur was now living in a struggling community shelter on the edge of the city. He was entirely alone; his beloved Martha had passed away, and he had fallen into extreme poverty.

Lily immediately ordered her driver to take her to the shelter. When she arrived, her heart broke. Arthur was sitting on a wooden bench, shivering under a thin blanket, clutching a worn-out bag. He looked so frail, a shadow of the strong, kind man who had rescued her all those years ago. Lily knelt before him on the damp concrete, holding the glass case containing the brown leather shoes.

A Heartbreaking Reunion

"Arthur, do you remember these?" Lily asked, her eyes filling with tears.

The old man stared at the polished shoes, and slowly, a faint spark of recognition lit up his tired eyes. Before he could speak, however, a sleek black luxury sedan pulled up to the curb. A man in an expensive suit stepped out, holding a clipboard and flanked by two security guards. It was Marcus, a ruthless regional manager from Apex Development—a massive real estate conglomerate.

"Alright, old man, your time is up," Marcus sneered, waving an eviction notice. "We are clearing this entire block today for the new high-rise. Pack your trash and get out."

Lily stood up, placing herself directly between the developer and Arthur. "How can you treat people this way? This is a shelter!" she demanded, her voice shaking with anger.

Marcus laughed dismissively, entirely unaware of who Lily was. "It’s business, lady. Apex Development owns this land now. If you don't like it, take it up with our CEO. But until then, this old parasite is leaving."

Lily looked down at the clipboard in his hand. The corporate logo at the top was unmistakable. It was her own company. She was the CEO of Apex Development. Her own aggressive expansion policies had inadvertently targeted the very man who had saved her life.
