Previously: When a corrupt pension officer tried to swindle a decorated veteran on the street, he didn't expect a four-star general to arrive in a convoy to settle the score.

Raymond’s smug demeanor shattered instantly. The color drained from his face as he looked from the formidable four-star general to the polished black shoe resting near the gold coin. Trembling, the young bureaucrat slowly bent down, his expensive suit straining as he picked up the gold piece and handed it over. General Sterling snatched it, his eyes cold as ice.

The Scales of Justice

"Do you have any idea whose property you just defiled?" General Sterling demanded, his voice dropping to a dangerous, quiet rumble. He brushed a speck of dust off the coin before handing it back to Louis with a respectful nod. "This man is Sergeant Major Louis Carter. He saved my life, and the lives of fifty other men, in a valley you couldn't even find on a map."

"I... I was just conducting a routine audit, General," Raymond stammered, clutching his clipboard like a shield. "His files were incomplete. It was a simple administrative suspension. I was just doing my job."

General Sterling stepped closer, his decorated chest nearly touching Raymond’s face. "Your job? Or your side hustle? We've been monitoring your department for six months, Raymond. We know all about the 'administrative errors' that conveniently divert veterans' pension funds into private offshore accounts. We just needed the prime suspect to catch themselves in the act."

Raymond gasped, stumbling backward. He realized too late that this wasn't a random encounter. The General had been tracking the digital trail of the stolen funds, and Louis had been the bait. Two federal marshals stepped out of the second SUV, handcuffs gleaming in the afternoon sun. Raymond looked around frantically, realizing his corporate empire of lies was crumbling around him. "Please," Raymond whimpered, looking at Louis. "Help me. It was a mistake!"
