Previously: When a cocky young champion mocks a 70-year-old woman at a shooting range, she decides to show her skills. But when the official sees her name, a 40-year-old secret is finally revealed.

A Ghost from the Past

Adrian stepped out from behind the counter, his hands trembling as he approached the firing line. The crowd of young shooters watched in confusion as the veteran official, known for his strict and unyielding demeanor, looked at the elderly woman as if he had just seen a ghost.

"Mona?" Adrian whispered, his voice cracking with emotion. "Mona Vance? I thought you disappeared forty years ago. We all thought you were gone."

Mona gave a small, sad nod. "I had to leave, Adrian. But I never stopped shooting."

Lenny, irritated by the sudden loss of attention, pushed his way forward. "Adrian, what are you talking about? Who is this old lady? She just got a lucky group. It happens to amateurs all the time."

Adrian turned on Lenny with a fierce intensity. "Shut your mouth, Lenny. Forty years ago, Mona Vance was the national tactical champion. She was set to go to the Olympics before your father, who was the head of the athletic board, falsely accused her of a doping violation to secure your own family's legacy. She walked away to protect her family from a public smear campaign. She is the true co-founder of this very range."

The revelation sent a shockwave through the room. Lenny's face flushed with anger and embarrassment. The legacy his father had built was suddenly exposed as a sham. Refusing to accept the truth, Lenny sneered and stepped closer to Mona.

"I don't care about old fairy tales," Lenny spat. "If she thinks she can just walk back in here and claim our family's spotlight, she's wrong. I challenge you, old woman. A sudden-death shootout, ten rounds at maximum distance. If you win, I'll withdraw from the championship and publicly apologize. If you lose, you leave and never speak my father's name again."

Mona looked at the young man, seeing the same arrogant malice that had ruined her career decades ago. She nodded slowly. "Deal."
