A Smug Champion Mocked an Elderly Woman, But Her Real Identity Shook the Arena
The air inside the Apex Shooting Range always smelled of spent gunpowder, brass, and old gun oil. For seventy-one-year-old Maud, it was the smell of a past she had spent three decades trying to forget. She adjusted her navy fleece jacket, her cropped grey hair catching the harsh fluorescent lights of the lobby. She carried only a small, weathered leather case.
As she approached the registration desk, she was intercepted by Lucas. At twenty-six, Lucas was the golden boy of the local shooting circuit—cocky, athletic, and wearing a black t-shirt that clung to his chest. He looked at Maud, a patronizing smirk spreading across his face.

"This is not a retirement club, ma'am," Lucas said, chuckling as his friends grinned behind him. "The senior bingo night is down the street."
Maud didn't flinch. She simply slid her ID card across the counter to the young clerk.
"I came here to compete," she said, her voice dropping to a calm, icy whisper.
Ignoring the snickers, Maud walked to Lane 4. She opened her case, revealing a pristine, custom-built pistol. She loaded a magazine, took her stance, and exhaled slowly. In a flash of motion, she raised the weapon.
Bang. Bang. Bang. Bang. Bang.
Five rapid-fire shots echoed through the range. When the smoke cleared, the target was pulled forward. Every single round had passed through the exact center of the bullseye, leaving one jagged, perfect hole.
An onlooker gasped behind her. "Impossible!"
Maud walked back to the counter, took a pen, and signed her name on the registration form. Standing nearby was Andrew, a sixty-seven-year-old range official. He casually picked up her sheet, but as his eyes scanned the signature, he froze. He lowered his glasses in utter shock, his hands trembling.
"Wait," Andrew whispered, looking up at Maud. "That name..."
”Andrew whispered, looking up at Maud. "That name..."
