Previously: When a cocky young shooter mocked 71-year-old Maud at the range, he had no idea who she really was—until her legendary signature left the head official completely speechless.

A Shot at Redemption

Victor smiled thinly, stepping beside his son. "You are banned, Maud. Your name is a stain on this sport, and it will remain so."

But Maud was not the vulnerable woman she had been thirty years ago. She had spent decades preparing for this moment. She reached into her navy fleece jacket and pulled out a yellowed piece of paper—the original 1984 charter of the Apex Range.

"The blacklist only applies to board-sanctioned tournaments," Maud declared, her voice echoing with authority. "But under Article 7 of the founding charter, any honorary lifetime member has the right to challenge the reigning champion to a direct, public duel for the title. And I am still a lifetime member."

Andrew’s eyes lit up. He checked the charter and nodded. "She's right, Victor. If she challenges Lucas directly, the board cannot stop it. And it must be held right now, in front of everyone."

Lucas, eager to prove himself and protect his family's pride, stepped forward. "I accept. I'll show this old woman that her time is long gone."

The duel was set: ten shots each, rapid fire, moving targets. Lucas went first. He was fast and precise, scoring a highly impressive 98 out of 100. He smirked at Maud as he stepped back.

Maud took her place. Her hands did not shake. She closed her eyes, remembering her late husband’s final words: Show them who you are, Maud.

She opened her eyes and raised her pistol. Bang. Bang. Bang.

Ten shots. Ten perfect bullseyes. A perfect 100.

The crowd erupted into cheers. But the victory was double-edged. As Andrew inspected the targets, he noticed the unique rifling pattern on Maud’s old pistol—the very same pattern from the 1984 incident. It proved that the weapon used in the "tampering" scandal thirty years ago wasn't Maud's at all, but a duplicate registered to Victor Vance. The truth was finally out. Victor's face went pale as Andrew realized the fraud.

Maud lowered her weapon, looking at the defeated Lucas and his exposed father. True strength is not defined by youth or arrogance, but by the quiet resilience that stands the test of time.

The End
