A Smug Champion Mocked an Elderly Woman, Until She Signed Her Real Name
Previously: When 25-year-old Lawrence mocked 67-year-old Marilyn at the shooting range, he had no idea she was a legendary champion returning to the sport after a devastating thirty-year absence.
The Ghost of the Range
At the registration counter, Anthony, a sixty-one-year-old official who had managed the range for nearly three decades, was casually sorting through tournament sign-up sheets. He had heard the rapid gunfire and looked up just in time to see Marilyn walking toward him. The crowd of onlookers was already muttering in disbelief, one of them gasping, "Impossible! No one shoots rapid-fire like that anymore."
Marilyn took the official registration pen. With a firm, elegant hand, she signed her name on the bottom line of the tournament entry form. She slid the paper across the counter to Anthony. The official picked it up, his eyes scanning the details automatically. But when his gaze landed on the signature, he froze. His breathing hitched.

Anthony slowly lowered his reading glasses, his eyes wide with an expression that bordered on terror and awe. He looked at the signature, then up at the quiet woman standing in front of him. His voice was barely a whisper.
"Wait... that name," Anthony breathed, his hands visibly trembling. "Marilyn Vance. It can't be."
Lawrence had recovered from his shock and marched over to the counter, his face flushed with embarrassment. "She got lucky, Anthony! It was a fluke. She probably closed her eyes and pulled the trigger. You can't let some random grandmother register for the elite division."
Anthony turned a fierce, warning glare onto the young man.
"Shut your mouth, Lawrence," Anthony commanded, his voice shaking with authority. "You are standing in the presence of royalty. Marilyn Vance is 'The Silver Bullet.' She was the undefeated national champion who set a world record that still stands today. She disappeared thirty years ago after a personal tragedy, but her legacy is legendary."
A collective gasp rippled through the gathered crowd. Lawrence’s face paled, but his stubborn pride refused to let him back down. Desperate to save face, he stepped closer to Marilyn, issuing a direct challenge.
"I don't care about history books," Lawrence sneered. "I challenge you to a single-round shoot-off right now. If you win, I'll apologize publicly. If you lose, you retire for good."
