Adrian looked up from the paper, his face pale. The name on the registration form was Ramona Vance. Thirty years ago, Ramona "The Ghost" Vance was an Olympic gold medalist and a tactical shooting legend who had suddenly vanished from the public eye after a tragic accident claimed her husband. She had never been beaten.

Lenny, furious that an old woman had upstaged him in front of his followers, marched over to the desk. "I don't care what kind of lucky shot she just had, Adrian. Sign me up for the main event. I'm going to put this senior citizen in her place."

Adrian grabbed Lenny’s shoulder, his grip surprisingly tight. "Son, you need to back down," Adrian warned in a low, tense voice. "You are standing in the room with a legend. She will humiliate you."

But Lenny's pride was too wounded. He refused to believe the stories of a bygone era. He stepped directly into Mona's path as she prepared to pack her gear. "If you're really the big deal Adrian says you are, prove it," Lenny challenged, loud enough for the entire range to hear. "A one-on-one shootout. Five targets, rapid fire. If I win, you walk out of here and never come back. If you win, I'll personally hand you my champion's locker."

Mona looked at the young man. She saw the same toxic arrogance that had plagued the sport decades ago. She thought of her grandson, whom Lenny had bullied just days prior. She nodded slowly.

"I accept. But we use the old-school steel plates."

As they took their places, Lenny leaned over, a cruel smile on his face. He whispered, "I know who you are, Ramona. I know what happened to your husband on this very range. Let's see if your hands start shaking when the pressure is on."
