Commander Vance waited for Jessica’s order, ready to initiate immediate disciplinary action that would have ended Luke's military career before it even truly began. Luke stared straight ahead, tears of panic brimming in his eyes. He knew that a dishonorable discharge would not only ruin his life but would also permanently alienate him from his highly decorated father.

Jessica stepped closer, her wet red hair dripping onto the collar of her shirt. She looked at the terrified young man, seeing past the arrogant facade to the insecure boy trying too hard to impress his peers.

"I could have you court-martialed by sunset, Luke," Jessica said quietly. "Your father told me you were a liability to this unit. But he also hoped I could salvage whatever dignity you have left."

Luke’s eyes widened. He hadn't realized his father was involved, let alone that his father had authorized this undercover test. The realization humbled him more than any physical punishment ever could. He lowered his head, the arrogance completely drained from his posture.

"I'm sorry, Colonel," Luke whispered, his voice cracking. "I let my ego get the best of me. I'll accept whatever punishment you deem fit."

Instead of destroying his career, Jessica chose a path of true leadership. She ordered Luke to spend the next month performing base maintenance, pulling double guard duty, and personally apologizing to every soldier he had bullied. Most importantly, he had to write a weekly progress report to his father, proving he was earning his place through hard work rather than his family name.

He worked harder than anyone else, eventually earning the respect of his peers through genuine merit. Jessica watched his progress with quiet satisfaction.
