The Smug Soldier Laughed at the Old Veteran Until One Shot Changed Everything
Previously: When an arrogant young soldier mocked an old veteran at a desert shooting range, he had no idea he was challenging a legendary ghost unit sniper.
The Mark of the Ghost Unit
The stunned silence on the range was broken by the thrumming sound of a helicopter approaching. Within minutes, a black transport chopper touched down on the tarmac, kicking up a whirlwind of dust. Out stepped General Vance, the base commander, flanked by two armed military police officers. Jax, desperate to salvage his pride, rushed forward to greet the General.
"General Vance, sir! This civilian is disrupting our active fire training. I was just about to have him removed,"
Jax lied, his voice tight with anxiety. But General Vance ignored the young soldier entirely. He marched straight past Jax, stopping inches from William. To the absolute shock of everyone present, the General snapped a crisp, respectful salute.

"Welcome back, Commander. We didn't think you'd make it,"
Vance said. Jax’s jaw dropped. The "old civilian" he had just insulted was a highly decorated legend, a founding member of the Ghost Unit. But the General’s expression was grim, devoid of any celebratory warmth.
General Vance leaned in closer to William, his voice dropping to a low whisper. He explained that a highly classified military satellite transmitter had gone missing from the secure vault just hours ago, and intelligence suggested the thief was planning to transmit coordinates from this very range. William’s eyes narrowed as he scanned the crowd. He noticed Jax’s hand trembling as it rested near his state-of-the-art rifle. Attached to the underside of Jax's weapon stock was a small, blinking black device.
Seeing William’s gaze lock onto the device, Jax realized his cover was blown. The smugness vanished, replaced by the raw panic of a cornered animal. Jax took a step back, his hand dropping toward his sidearm. The young soldiers around them froze, suddenly realizing that a deadly confrontation was unfolding right in front of them.
