Previously: When a cocky young soldier sneered at a seventy-two-year-old veteran at a desert shooting range, he had no idea he was challenging a legendary military ghost.

The Ultimate Challenge

The silence that fell over the shooting range was heavy and suffocating. Brody stood frozen, his eyes darting between the distant target and the weathered face of the old veteran. The phrase 'ghost unit' echoed in his mind, carrying the weight of classified military legends he had only heard whispered about in dark barracks. Yet, his pride, built on years of being the absolute best in his regiment, refused to let him accept defeat so easily.

Humiliation quickly morphed into a hot, desperate anger. Brody stepped closer to Arthur, his fists clenched tightly at his sides, his face flushed red under his military cap.

"This was a fluke!" Brody snarled, his voice carrying over the murmuring crowd. "A lucky shot from a lucky old man. If you are really the legend they claim you are, prove it. Right now."

Brody reached to his hip and unholstered his prized possession: a custom-engraved, state-of-the-art combat pistol. He slammed it onto the wooden table with a heavy thud. "We shoot a rapid-fire duel. Five steel targets, fifty yards, drawing from the holster. If you win, you take my custom sidearm. If you lose, you admit you're a fraud, hand over your rifle, and walk off this range forever."

The crowd gasped. The range commander stepped forward to intervene, but Arthur raised a single, weathered hand, silencing the officer. Arthur looked at the sleek pistol, then met Brody's fiery gaze with eyes that had seen things the young soldier could scarcely imagine.

"I accept your terms, son," Arthur said, his voice smooth and steady. "But let's add one condition. When I win, you don't just give me your gun. You apologize to every veteran on this range, and you clean the target stands for the rest of the season."

Brody sneered, confident that Arthur's aged hands would shake under the pressure of a rapid-fire draw. "Deal," he spat.
