A Smug Soldier Mocked An Old Veteran At The Range, Until One Shot Changed Everything
Previously: When a young, arrogant soldier mocked a sixty-eight-year-old veteran at a desert training facility, he had no idea he was standing in the presence of a legendary ghost unit sniper.
The General's Secret
The silence at the shooting range was thick enough to cut with a knife. Jax stood frozen, his eyes darting between the impossible target downrange and the calm, weathered face of the veteran standing before him. The range officer’s words—the ghost unit—echoed in his mind. It was a myth whispered among recruits, a legendary group of black-ops snipers who had operated in the shadows during the height of the Cold War.
Before Jax could find his voice to apologize, the gravel crunched behind them. A black military SUV pulled up, kicking up a cloud of red dust. Out stepped General Vance, the base commander, accompanied by three men in dark civilian suits. Jax immediately snapped to attention, saluting with rigid precision.

"General! This civilian discharged a weapon without authorization!" Jax reported, his voice cracking slightly as he tried to shift the blame.
General Vance didn't even glance at Jax. His eyes were locked entirely on William. The hardened commander took off his cap, a look of profound respect and sudden anxiety washing over his face. To the utter shock of everyone present, the General walked up to William and bowed his head.
"Sir, we thought we lost you in the mountains twenty years ago," General Vance said softly. "Why have you come back now?"
William reached into his utility jacket and pulled out a sealed manila envelope. "I came to deliver this, Vance. The files from the Gemini project. They're active again."
The men in suits immediately stepped forward, one of them drawing a set of federal badges. "William Miller, you are under arrest for the theft of classified military intelligence," the lead agent declared, stepping toward the old veteran. Jax watched in absolute horror, realizing he had just insulted a man whose very existence was a matter of national security, and who was now at the center of a high-stakes federal ambush right on his base.
