Previously: When a young, arrogant soldier mocks a weathered senior at a desert shooting competition, he has no idea he's testing a legendary ghost unit sniper who only needs one shot.

The silence that followed Edward’s shot was absolute. The young soldiers who had been snickering moments ago now stood frozen, their eyes darting between the monitor and the quiet veteran. Hunter stammered, trying to find his voice.

"What? Impossible! That was a fluke,"
he whispered, though the sweat on his brow betrayed his terror. But the real shift in the air occurred when Colonel Vance, the high-ranking officer overseeing the entire event, stepped out of the command tent. He had heard the shot and came to investigate. His eyes immediately fell upon Edward's exposed forearm, where the black wolf tattoo was clearly visible.

The Mark of the Ghost

Colonel Vance's face went pale. He walked briskly toward Edward, stopped exactly two paces away, and snapped into a crisp, rigid salute. The crowd gasped.

"That is the mark of the Ghost Unit,"
the Colonel announced, his voice carrying across the quiet range. He turned to the stunned crowd, his eyes resting angrily on Hunter.
"You just insulted a legendary sniper who served this country before your parents were even married. This man’s unit officially never existed, yet their sacrifices saved entire battalions."

The weight of the revelation crushed Hunter's remaining arrogance. The Colonel turned to Edward, apologizing profusely for the disrespect shown by his junior officer. He then turned back to Hunter with a cold, stern expression.

"Sergeant, your behavior is a disgrace to the uniform. You are disqualified from this competition immediately, and I am stripping you of your title as range captain. A disciplinary report will be filed."
Hunter fell to his knees in the dry dust, his face pale with despair. He pleaded with the Colonel, explaining that losing his title and the accompanying promotion would ruin his family, who were struggling with mounting medical bills. The Colonel looked at Edward, leaving the final decision of mercy or ruin in the veteran's hands.
