The Confrontation in the General's Office

The tension inside General Scott’s private office was thick enough to cut with a bayonet. The heavy oak door had closed behind them, shutting out the rest of the base. Lauren stood at attention, her eyes fixed forward, while Major Sterling stood beside her, his posture relaxed but his jaw tightly clenched. General Scott sat behind his desk, his fingers folded together as he studied the two soldiers before him.

"Explain," General Scott commanded, his voice cold and flat.

Major Sterling stepped forward slightly, his face a mask of concern. "Sir, Specialist Vance had an unfortunate training accident during weekend maneuvers. She fell against some equipment. A standard incident report has already been logged. However, she has been under extreme personal stress lately, which seems to be affecting her perception of reality." He reached into his leather folder and slid a document across the desk. "These are preliminary medical evaluations suggesting she may be unfit for active duty due to paranoia."

Lauren felt a chill run down her spine. Sterling had anticipated her move. He had forged psychiatric evaluations and filed a fake accident report to completely discredit her. If she spoke up now without proof, she would not only lose her career, but she could also face a dishonorable discharge and psychiatric confinement.

"Is this true, Specialist Vance?" General Scott asked, his sharp eyes scanning the documents. "Do you have any evidence to support your claims, or are you suffering from the delusions described here?"

Lauren took a deep breath, knowing this was her only shot. "Major Sterling is lying, sir. He assaulted me because I discovered he was siphoning military equipment to private contractors. And I do have proof." She slowly reached into her pocket and pulled out a small, encrypted USB drive. "This contains the complete digital ledger of the stolen inventory, along with security footage of the Major loading the crates himself—and the audio recording of him threatening me in his office."
